The subsidy gap, concretely
General-purpose childcare apps treat a subsidy agency as just another payer on an invoice. That works until the state pays you by warrant for a batch of children at once, on eligible-day math your invoice never modeled. In Illinois, a center at or above 70% attendance is paid for approved days — billing only attended days systematically under-claims. Reokin generates the claim from the attendance ledger with the rule applied, then matches the deposit to the claim penny-exact when it lands. If a warrant is short, you know which child and which day — the same hour, not at month-end.
Brightwheel's own materials note that subsidy agencies can't pay providers through the platform — centers with heavy CCAP enrollment typically run that side manually. If that's your center, that manual side is exactly the product Reokin is.
Common questions
Is Reokin a Brightwheel replacement?
For the compliance and money side — attendance records, ratios, CCAP claims, reconciliation, billing — yes. For parent engagement, Brightwheel is more mature: Reokin has a parent portal with incident signing, photo albums, and billing, but no in-app chat or curriculum features. Centers whose pain is subsidy billing and compliance choose Reokin; centers whose pain is parent communication choose Brightwheel.
How does Reokin handle CCAP billing differently?
Reokin generates the claim itself from your attendance ledger, applying the state rule — in Illinois, centers at or above 70% attendance bill eligible (approved) days, not attended days, which is money most manual processes leave behind. When the state warrant lands in your bank, Reokin matches it to the claim penny-exact and splits it across families automatically.
What does Brightwheel do better than Reokin?
Parent-facing engagement: messaging, daily activity reports, photos with a polished mobile app, plus lesson planning and assessments. Brightwheel has also been around since 2010 with a large install base. If those are your top needs, it is a strong choice.
What does Brightwheel cost?
Brightwheel does not publish pricing — quotes are custom, provided after a sales call, and vary by center size and tier. Payment processing is charged separately per transaction. Reokin is currently onboarding founding-partner centers in Illinois; contact us for cohort terms.
Can I use Reokin alongside Transparent Classroom or another curriculum tool?
Yes — that is the default setup for our design-partner centers. Reokin runs compliance, attendance, billing, and CCAP; your existing classroom tool keeps doing curriculum and portfolios.
